Brain Injury

Case Story 1

The Case:

Jenny, a University of North Carolina student, was driving home from work when a tractor-trailer crossed over to her side of the road and hit her. Jenny suffered a brain injury as a result.

The Results:

Through a successful resolution, Pulley Watson ensured that Jenny has had ample funds to recover from her injuries, finish college and go on to become a physician's assistant. And she now spends her time helping people with brain injuries.

Case Story 2

The Case:

Late one night, a nurse and her fiancé were on the way to her shift at a hospital during a snowstorm. The fiancé pulled out into an intersection at a red flashing light. The driver of a tractor-trailer, coming from the cross street where there was a flashing yellow light, proceeded through the intersection and hit them. She suffered a severe brain injury, and her fiancé was killed.

The Investigation:

Pulley Watson filed a suit against the tractor-trailer company, and against the fiancé's estate. The case was originally thrown out because the car title was in the woman's name, and North Carolina law stated it was therefore her responsibility – even if she was not the driver. Pulley Watson believed strongly in this case, and fought hard to get it before the North Carolina Court of Appeals.

The Results:

Based on Pulley Watson's presentation, the North Carolina Court of Appeals changed the law to hold the driver responsible. The woman was awarded almost two million dollars to pay her a salary for the rest of her life.
